Tips for Packing Smarter

You don’t have to sacrifice style or preparedness to pack light. Here’s how to avoid the overpacking trap:
• Make a Capsule Wardrobe: Choose versatile, mix-and-match clothing in neutral colors. Aim for 5–7 outfits that can be layered for different weather or occasions.
• Limit Shoes: Pack two pairs max (one comfortable walking pair, one dressier option). Wear the bulkiest pair on travel days to save space.

• Use a Packing List: Plan essentials based on your destination’s weather and activities, and stick to it. Avoid “just in case” items like extra sweaters or gadgets.
• Opt for Travel-Sized Toiletries: Bring only what you need for the first few days and buy refills locally to save space and engage with the destination.
• Choose Lightweight Luggage: Invest in a carry-on-sized bag or backpack (22x14x9 inches or smaller) to force yourself to pack minimally and avoid checked-bag hassles.
• Leave Room for Souvenirs: Pack with 20% of your bag empty to accommodate local purchases or unexpected needs.
• Digitize What You Can: Use e-books, digital maps, or apps instead of heavy guidebooks or paper documents to reduce weight.
